Thornhill Umpires

The Thornhill Baseball Club is pleased to announce that Shawn Swartz is the Umpire Administrator for the Club in 2011/12 and that Jeff Swartz is the Umpire-in-Chief for 2011/12.
Most of you indicated you would be returning to umpire in 2011 when you returned your equipment last fall. Please send a note to (vprepbaseball@gmail.com) confirming your intentions for this coming season. As well, if you know of anyone who is interested in umpiring, advise them to contact Jeff.
Arrangements for the level 1 and level 2 umpire clinics are being worked on and are in the planning stages. Please stay tuned to this website as information about these clinics should be available by the April 2011. Please don't hesitate to contact Jeff Swartz if you have any questions, concerns, or referrals.
As well, the Club is always looking to welcome reliable and conscientious individuals who are 14 years old or older as umpires. Umpiring is fun and allows those who have a strong interest in the game to earn some money officiating. If you are interested you must register for and attend the Level 1 clinic. You can get more information and register for the Level 1 clinic by contacting Jeff Swartz by e-mail (vprepbaseball@gmail.com). You will need to provide your name, date of birth, address, telephone number, e-mail address and whether you will be playing baseball and where in 2011.
All Thornhill umpires are carded and insured by Baseball Ontario every year. The Club always welcomes additional new umpires at anytime who are carded especially if they are Level 2 or higher. All existing Level 3's and all Level 2's who have at least 3 consecutive years of experience at that level are eligible to take the Level 3 certification exam. Umpires can confirm their status in the Umpiring section of Baseball Ontario website (www.baseballontario.com). The Level 3 certification exam has not yet been posted on Baseball Ontario's website. Umpires who are eligible to take the exam should check the site regularly. There is a $45 charge to take the exam. TBC refunds this amount to all successful candidates who commit to umpiring in Thornhill in the first pay to the umpires.
The Club's House League Rules will be reviewed by coaches and convenors during March with a view to determining if any changes are needed. Input as to what rules work and what rules need to be changed, deleted or added will be sought from the Club’s umpires. The Club’s existing roster of umpires will be contacted by e-mail with the date, time and location of the meeting before the end of February. If you can't attend the meeting, you can send your comments by e-mail. The Club's current House League Rules can be accessed on this site.
The Club's Board of Directors reviewed the umpire pay schedule and revised most of the per-game rates upwards for 2011. The new rate schedule will be set out on the Club’s umpiring website soon.
